Trouble Shooting Tips For Swimming Pool Pumps
Apr 12th, 2010 by Serena Patterson

Read these good ideas for solving problems you might have with swimming pool pumps. Water damage will make your pump not power on. A volt meter will tell you if your pump is not receiving enough voltage. Make sure your pump is located in a level place that has sufficient drainage so that flooding does not damage it.

If your pump is powering off after heating up, it is probably because the automatic thermal overload is shutting down your pump. Inspect the air intake vents to determine if debris is clogging them up. If the vents are blocked, the motor will heat up and the thermal overload will shut the pump down. An undersized wire or poor connection will prevent sufficient power from reaching your pump and will shut it down. If there is a heat wave, your utility company may be experiencing a power shortage. Shut off your pump until the weather cools down.

There can be several reasons why your pump is noisy. Check to make sure that the pump is level and that the lines are lower than the pump. Put some padding between the base of the pump and the equipment. A leaking seal may have damaged the pump bearings. Inspect the pump to make sure the piping is the proper size.

A timing clock or automated control that is not set appropriately for the size of your pool may result in an unpleasant increase on your electric bill. Check the manual that came with your pump to find out what the proper circulation time is and set it to that amount. But remember utility rates have increased quite a bit over the years so that might be the explanation.

Air leaks can cause your pump not to fill with water. Check your suction line to make sure it is not obstructed. Inspect the motor shaft to verify that the impeller has not come off.

Pump covers will extend your pump motor life. However, they are not required. If you do use a pump cover, make sure you do not obstruct the cooling vents. If the cooling vents are blocked, your pump will not have good air circulation and can over heat and then shut down.

A blocked line or a dirty filter can cause water not to flow when the motor is running. A valve that is inadvertently shut off or partially shut off can also cause water not to flow. Inspect the impeller to make sure it is not clogged. If necessary, clean the impeller. A symptom of a leaky pump is air bubbles flowing into the pool. Low water level may cause air and water to combine in the skimmer resulting in this problem.

There are many day-to-day maintenance items that a pool owner can do to keep a well maintained pool. However, for complicated repairs and problems always have a authorized technician with the training and experience with swimming pool pumps do the work. Ideas For The garden Pond
Sep 30th, 2009 by Ricki Geotti

If you are thinking about building a pond in your garden then there is a lot to think about, from the way you want your pond to look with the shape and plants and fish, to how big the pond will be and where abouts in your garden will be the best spot for your enjoyment.

But what about all the bits in between, there is decisions to be made on all the extras that can only make for a finished masterpiece. Probably the first big decision is to decide whether you want a regular fish pond or a koi pond.

Now your essentials will be the filter and pump and of course all ponds need these, but if it is a Koi pond then these become very important as the water will want to be crystal clear. So before construction starts on any kind of pond some more essentials to think about are the electric and water supply, these will need to be as close to the pond as possible to make life easier.

The sort of extras that we can add and enjoy are best thought about at the planning stage as most things are easier installed at the outset as the pond gets built, rather than trying to add to the pond later on. This is why careful planning is vital to the successful outcome of the pond.

To add to the look and add some sound to your pond, then what about a fountain, which will also aerate the water for the fish. It is best to give the fountain its own pump so that it can be turned off when not needed, without turning anything else off with it such as the filter pump. You may want to turn it off when you are not there to enjoy it or during the night.

What about the gentle sound of a flowing waterfall, these really can make for a great looking pond. You can enjoy more than one waterfall, depending on the size of your pond. Whether the waterfall is a large or small one the noise can be so relaxing and they are well worth thinking about before construction starts.

After dark you can really add something special to the overall effect of your pond by adding some lights, from different colors to above or below water, you can really create something amazing for when the evenings draw in making your pond come alive after dark.

Another important thing to consider in the planning stages of building a pond is the type of fish you will be getting for your pond. This may determine the way in which your pond is going to be constructed. A pond housing Goldfish may be a different design to one housing Koi, but on your desicion and completion of your pond will come the fun part of picking your very own fish.
